The claim to fame of 2 Upper Wimpole Street is that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories worked and wrote here from in 1891. There's even a plaque to celebrate it! Dr Conan Doyle obtained use of the first-floor front room, with shared use of the waiting room, with the aim of establishing himself as a medical ophthalmologist. Failing to attract any patients to his rooms, he made his name as an author.
