Mr David Goodier, MB BS FRCS(Eng) FRCS(Orth), is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, foot and ankle disorders, knee conditions and general trauma including leg fractures and ligament injuries.
Mr Goodier has a special interest in the management of injury, ranging from treating high level athletes at their peak of fitness to the victims of accidents with complex fractures of the limbs. He has a particular expertise in correcting the complications of fractures such as non-union and mal-union, and has pioneered new techniques of post-deformity limb lengthening and deformity correction.
An experienced private orthopaedic surgeon in London
Mr Goodier qualified from The London Hospital in 1985. His training took him to diverse places including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, St Georges Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Colchester, Croydon, Newham and a three month stint at a trauma centre in Germany. He gravitated back to The Royal London Hospital, which had the first medically staffed helicopter emergency service in the UK, and remains the busiest centre for polytrauma in the UK. He became consultant there in 1996, and remained until the end of 2011.
Having developed an expertise in what was a the time a highly unfashionable specialty, Mr Goodier found himself being referred cases that were too complex to be dealt with elsewhere, or had unfortunately gone wrong. He learned and helped develop techniques in limb salvage surgery, and twice travelled to the Ilizarov Institute in Siberia to see what techniques they were using.
As well as the more complex trauma side of things, he has an interest in sports-related trauma, notably soft tissue andligament injuries of the knee and ankle.
