Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon specialising in cholecystectomy operations (gallstones), laparoscopic gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, Roux en Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic and open hernia repairs and anti-reflux surgery such as laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication and surgery for achalasia.
Marcus Reddy is Consultant Surgeon at St George's Hospital. He is the lead Upper GI Surgeon at St George's and developed the South Thames Bariatric Service which is preferred provider for NHS bariatric surgery in the region.
Marcus is Service Director of the Rapid Gallstone Clinic in London, which provides prompt clinical and radiological assessment for private patients with suspected gallstone symptoms. Usually key hole surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) is used, however non-surgical options may also be appropriate.

Marcus trained in London and Australia where he gained an in-depth knowledge of GI surgery, liver transplant, hepatobiliary surgery and laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
He is a fully accredited on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register for General Surgery with a nominated special interest Upper Gastrointestinal and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery.
He is also a member of the committee overseeing the National Bariatric Surgery Database, a Senior Lecturer in Surgery at St George's and an active member many prestigious associations.

Marcus performs cholecystectomy and hernia repairs as day-case when appropriate and uses non-diathermy techniques such as Ultracision Harmonic Scalpel to avoid electrical conduction complications in laparoscopic surgery. He has particular experience with high risk bariatric surgery where staged procedures are required.
Publications
Mr Reddy has published on management of biliary injuries following cholecystectomy, unusual hernias such as interparietal hernias and also follow-up of hernia repairs performed with pre-peritoneal techniques. He has lectured nationally and internationally on bariatric surgery.
