Mr Danny Morrison, BSc, MB ChB, FRCOphth, MD, is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, London and Senior Lecturer at King's College, University of London. About Danny Morrison
Following his medical training at The University of Sheffield, qualifying as one of the top students in his year and additionally gaining a first class honours degree, Mr Morrison undertook specialist training in ophthalmology at hospitals in Brighton, Leicester and Edinburgh.
Taking up the position of Senior Specialist Registrar at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, Mr Morrison then completed a Fellowship in ophthalmic plastic surgery, followed by further fellowship training in paediatric ophthalmology at Great Ormond Street Hospital and King's College Hospital.
After a period of research into congenital eye malformations with The Department of Health in Scotland, which resulted in the award of an MD from the University of Edinburgh, Mr Morrison was appointed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in 2005.
Mr Morrison is a member of The Paediatric Ophthalmology Team and The Eye Team at Guy's and St Thomas' and The Evelina Children's Hospital. He is a former medical advisor to the Eyeless Trust, a charity that supports children born with severe congenital eye abnormalities.
Mr Morrison has a special interest in paediatric ophthalmology, and is experienced in treating children with genetic eye disease and clinical genetic syndromes, squints, amblyopia (lazy eye), blocked tear ducts, lids lumps and congenital and acquired ptosis. He has featured several times on BBC Television's City Hospital programme performing squint and oculoplastic surgery.
Skilled in ophthalmic plastic surgery and lacrimal surgery, Mr Morrison also provides expert treatment for adult eyelid problems, such as eyebags, watery eye and eyelid/orbit lumps, as well as treatment and management of general adult eye conditions.
Mr Morrison is a fully trained expert witness and is experienced in the preparation of medico-legal reports and in making court appearances. He has a particular expertise in Shaken Baby Syndrome and eye-related Non-accidental Injury.
Teaching and research
As Lead Consultant for Undergraduate Teaching at St Thomas' Hospital, Co-Chairman for Admissions interviews for Guy's King's and St Thomas' Medical School (GKT) and an examiner for GKT, Mr Morrison plays an active role in ophthalmology teaching.
Mr Morrison regularly reviews articles for prestigious journals including The British Journal of Ophthalmology, Eye and The British Journal of Ophthalmology and has himself published widely in the field of paediatric ophthalmology, oculoplastics and ocular genetics. He has also presented his work at international meetings.
