New tinnitus treatment gets results

New tinnitus treatment gets results
Peter Humphries: "I find that I can concentrate so much more and life is peaceful for the first time in 20 years!"

New case studies and research trials both point to the effectiveness of Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation in providing long-term relief from tinnitus.

Available exclusively in the UK from the new Harley Street-based audiology centre, The Tinnitus Clinic, Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation therapy targets the auditory centre of the brain, naturally reducing tonal tinnitus and providing sustainable, long term relief.

In the six months since The Tinnitus Clinic opened, Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation has already been used by the clinic’s specialist audiologists to treat a number of patients. One of these, retiree, Peter Humphries reported a first change in symptoms within a fortnight of starting the treatment. Now, five months later, Peter only hears his tinnitus ‘every now and then’, at a much decreased volume.

“Since starting the treatment in June, my tinnitus has gradually and consistently changed in both volume and pitch. The tone has decreased and now I hear little or no sound. During September and October, I had over 40 completely tinnitus-free days and nights. I find that I can concentrate so much more and life is peaceful for the first time in 20 years!”

During treatment, patients wear a match-box sized acoustic device which transmits a unique and patient-specific set of tones via medical earphones for 4-6 hours per day. These tones disrupt the nerve-cell patterns which have caused the tinnitus. The total treatment spans 6-12 months, during which time the tinnitus sound is regularly evaluated by an audiologist and the acoustic signal is fine-tuned in line with changing symptoms.

While Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation is a new treatment in the UK this year, it has been extensively tested in Europe and has already been used to treat over 2,000 people. In August, a patient study into the use of Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation was presented at the Fifth International TRI (Tinnitus Research Initiative) Conference in the USA. The study found two-thirds of patients reported a significant improvement in their tinnitus symptoms after six months of treatment.

Acoustic CR® Neuromodulation is one of a range of treatments for tinnitus offered by The Tinnitus Clinic. Other evidence-based options for the treatment and the management of tinnitus include Tinnitus Desensitisation Therapy (TDT), Environmental Sound Enrichment and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
