Skin biopsy – to help establish a diagnosis in more complex cases
Excision – removal of cancers or benign growths
Cosmetic – removal of benign growths or moles for relief of symptoms (eg itching) or cosmetic improvement
This involves using a very fine jet of super-cold liquid nitrogen to destroy certain lesions such as warts, skin tags or sun damage.
The purpose of seeing an expert in moles and skin cancer is to identify which moles are benign, which are ‘atypical’ and which might have already become cancerous.
Injection of cortisone directly into areas of inflammation is an excellent way to rapidly reduce redness and swelling, such as in the treatment of spots, cysts, boils, keloid scars.
